My overall impression
Most of the time I worked on my own tasks. However, these were not the typical employment tasks for an intern, but they already gave me the feeling of practicing a profession that I could also imagine for the future.
First week at OEGE Trading
My tasks
When I arrived at the building at 9:00 a.m. as agreed, I was received directly by Silke. She then first showed me the whole building complex and I have to say, it’s huge. I had my own workstation during the time of my internship. Here I also received my tasks, which I will work on during the next two weeks. One of the tasks is this blog article. When I was shown everything and received all the passwords, I went straight to work, because I now had tasks to do.
Return
I was allowed to help out in the retail returns department. First, they explained to me how it all works. Then I had to open the packages that came back and see if everything was complete. I found it very interesting to see which items are returned and especially why.
Platforms
On Wednesday, I worked with Muhammed for the retail company Tribellium to see what was happening on the various platforms. That was very exciting, because I could see what is behind the sales on Amazon, Ebay and Co. I was able to learn a lot here. For example, that it’s not that easy to sell as a company on sales platforms like Amazon etc., but that there are a lot of rules and regulations behind it.
Warehouse
On Friday I was allowed to help out in the camp. That was really exhausting. So here really my respect to the people who do this every day. So in the warehouse I was allowed to pack the packages and put the shipping label on them, as it is called in technical jargon. In the beginning, it wasn’t so easy to have perfect timing because you had to weigh each package and the scale always took a little while to show the weight. Once you got into the rhythm, wrapping was quick and even a little fun.
The second week of my student internship
Purchasing
On the second Friday of my internship, I was at Dennis’ retail store and was supposed to do a price analysis. That means I was supposed to calculate how much profit you make with the current top sellers and then keep a list. That was really interesting, because you could see how much sales you make with which items. I was supposed to do this with the Calculator. The calculator is a program that calculates how much profit or loss you make. Here several criteria flow in. Once the category, because depending on it the taxes develop. Then in which package it is delivered and how much it cost in the purchase. On the basis these criteria then one is computed, what one makes at profit. It was also Özcan’s birthday, so we had a delicious breakfast for the whole team. That was really fitting, because I hadn’t had any breakfast and I was getting hungrier and hungrier.
Product Management
On Monday, my penultimate day of my internship, I was with Silke in Product Management. This is where the descriptions for the products are created. Here I was allowed to create a product description and even create my own 5-pack. That was quite interesting to see, but I don’t think I could do that for a long time because my vocabulary just isn’t broad enough for that.
Tuesday was unfortunately the last day of my internship. As a thank you for letting me do my internship here and for letting me ask my questions at any time, I brought ice cream with me. I covered my last traces and signed out everywhere and tidied up my desk and the day was over and so was the internship.
